By emphasizing the Dersim events in 1937-38 are not only in concern of the region but the whole country, Arabacı underlined that these events should be understood properly. By evaluating these events under the conditions of the period and geography, Arabacı, stated that people took the characteristics of Dersim, which is steep and rocky. He noted that from the Ottoman Empire era until today, the region was always disobedient, bandit, rebellious to the governments which were helpless to control the region. However, the close relationships were always supplied with the government even in the critical periods.
“The political reforms made in Ottoman Empire in 1839, since then the interference with Dersim were made and the government tried to approach that area step by step by construction police station and military posts. However; these steps strengthened the hands of the landlords in the region” said Arabacı. He also put into words that until the republic era there was a semi-autonomous atmosphere in the region.
Arabacı indicated that, before the 1937-38 events there were various reports written about the region and public inspectorships constructed for the area. Before the Dersim events burst out in 1937-38 there were improvements about the administrative structure and the “law of Dersim” was introduced, said Arabacı. He also took the attentions to the distinctiveness in the administrable and the judicial structure of the region. With the effects of the events while supplying the government control inhumanely, the notable people in Dersim took the decision of resistance and the events started, said Arabacı. He indicated that it was a total sweeping operation. After the events ended up in 1938, many families sent into exile and also Arabacı added that thousands of people lost their lives in these unlucky events.
