That Israel attacked, in front of the world, the conscious people from 32 different countries with the aim of aiding Gaza where 1,5 billion people are hungry, thirsty, and drugless after Israel’ blockade continues to be indignant. People are more inured to Israel’s inhumane and terror-like policies pursued from Israel’s pre-foundation until today. However, what everyone tries to understand now is where Israel’s courage and recklessness come from and what Israel really wants to do…
“Survival by demolishing” and the terror policies are the tactics that Israel has appealed to since its pre-foundation. The core structures of the Mossad, which is the dynamic of the Israeli army and its domain, are the organizations of the Hagana, Irgun, Lehi, and Stern. The terror policies and practices of these organizations have virtually become Israel’s government policy.
Israel had already been on the agenda with its assassinations especially in Dubai and Budapest in the first few months of this year. For years, Israel has pursued its policies on following and killing its enemies and the people whom it considers as dangerous for itself all over the world. Accordingly, in the name of the United Nations, Judge Richard Goldstone prepared the Goldstone Report, which is 574 pages, on September 15, 2009. And in this report, Israel was accused of the violation of human rights in Palestine and in other Arab lands occupied by Israel. Moreover, a British court decided in 2009 that Israel’s Minister for Foreign Affairs-Tzipi Livni- should be arrested for the war crimes he committed.
Turkey’s Minister for Foreign Affairs- Ahmet Davutoğlu- said clearly what really should be said in his speech at the meeting organized immediately by the United Nations Security Council, which is “Today is the day when the boundary between the terrorists and the governments is blurred…”
What does Israel want to do with this operation? Above all, this is a demonstration of military and political power. Since the Entebbe Operation in 1976, Israel has tried to show the limitlessness of its intervention and its operational capacity in the frame of its own perception of security at every opportunity. Israel also showed it continuously in the operations it made in Palestine in the past. The unjust practices of the international law by the concerned organizations responsible for providing the international security and peace are one of the most important factors that encourage Israel to continue its policies.
Israel’s strategic alliances in the international arena and its effects on the powerful actors of the system, the Muslim world’s fragmented, unstable, and unserious attitudes towards Israel’s policies encourage Israel’s spoiled attitudes. Particularly Israel’s oppressive and violent policies carried out coldheartedly and unduly in Palestine take place in front of the whole world, it still continues for years. The biased attitudes of the influential media companies in the world and Israel’s control over them give Israel the opportunity to manipulate incidents. As a matter of fact, Israel tries to legitimate the bloody raid on defenseless Gaza aid ships by reflecting the truths in a distorted way with the media power.
If the multinational NGOs with the humane intentions had reached their goals, it would have given harm to the embargo on Gaza, which is tried to be turned into a jail by Israel, and to Israel’s policies on Palestine seriously. Therefore, with this operation Israel tried to intimidate people carelessly before similar things happen in the future and to build deterrence.
The UN, the NATO, and similar organizations responsible for the protection of peace remained passive about this incident which was obviously the violation of international law and thus requires penal sanction and the decisions taken by the UN were also useless. All these will be the developments to show, in fact, the law(lessness) of the powerful rules and the powerful is Israel.
Secondly, considering indignation and anger caused by this operation, which was performed as if a virtual challenge to the whole world by Israel, it seems as if Israel deliberately tries to create an anti-Semitist movement in the world. And it reflects the historical and psychological background of Israel on which it was founded. The ruling mentalities in Israel want the Jewish in diaspora be uneasy where they live and be obliged to immigrate to the Land of Israel. It is also possible to see this mentality in the events happened in the past. It is considered necessary for the achievement of the Great Israel ideal. When terrorist attacks were carried out in synagogues in Istanbul in 2003, did not the Prime Minister of Israel at that time, Ariel Sharon say “These incidents illustrated that Israel was the only place where the Jewish could live in peace securely” as a response to the terrorist attacks?
As a matter of fact, showing the protest demonstrations after the attack as an excuse, the Israeli authorities stated that the Jewish citizens in Turkey were under threat. “We do not and will not adopt Israel’s attitudes towards our citizens regardless of their religions and races. They are our own citizens. I also want my people to be more sensitive to this issue.” said the Prime Minister Erdoğan and it was definitely the best answer to be given.
Without a doubt, Turkey will never be a country where anti-Semitism or other distorted mentalities arouse. As it is not in Turks’ nature and anyone knows that it will serve Israel’s interests.
What should be done after all these? There is an obvious violation of the international law. There are a number of people who are injured or lost their lives. The world peace has been threatened and there is an actual illegal attack to the ships carrying people from different countries in the international waters.
Now it is necessary to display that some things have started to change in the world and there can be an international system against Israel’s spoiled politicians. At that point, Turkey has the capacity to show that it (Turkey) is an important international power and actor and to bring international institutions and organizations into action.
The Lockerbie Bombing, killing 270 people, happened in 1988; the Lebanon government was held responsible for it; and the international system made Lebanon pay substantial compensation to the victims’ families. Consequently Lebanon accepted it and was obliged to pay $10 million for each victim and $2,7 billion for all as compensation. In conclusion, Turkey should at least try to mold public opinion on the compensation for the rights of the families of the victims, who lost their lives due to Israel’s unjust attack and the volunteers, who were hurt, in the legal platform and attempt to take the necessary steps.
