Coup Plotting is more Shameful than Rape

Frequently used offhand discourse to dilute the lawsuits of “Balyoz”, “Ergenekon” and other coup lawsuits is “committing coup is impossible today.” To what extent those saying this believe in impossibility of coup d’état, to what extent they desire it and even their anger to the generals who failed to commit coup d’état are different issues. When we hear this sentence from those reckless people we can obviously feel the language of the threat that tells not to trust in fact that “coup is not possible today.”

The inclusion of a fourth Ergenekon suspect in the candidate list of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has shown that coup plotting has roots deeper than is thought in this country. As journalist Ahmet Altan justly points out, the CHP would not show the slightest hesitation in not allowing individuals who are suspects in corruption, murder and rape cases onto its candidate list. Although these individuals would be considered “innocent,” like the coup suspects, until their cases are concluded, the party would not give them any chance to them to run for Parliament from within the CHP’s ranks. These suspects prompt one to keep them at a distance the moment their trial begins due to the content of the charges directed against them. The strange thing is just this, coup-plotting is seen as an honorable crime and even if they are found guilty, coup plotters will never be punished in the conscience of the CHP.

Regardless of the proofs coming out, keeping aloof from the coup plotting networks even as for prudence doesn’t cross the mind of Republican People’s Party (CHP). Despite of the claims on unidentified murders, the murders of State Council, bombing mosques, Murder at Zirve publication and that of Hrant Dink and even connections with killing their own soldiers via conspiracy and ambushes and many others but still the CHP is indifferent to these crimes. It seems that these are honorable crimes for CHP. However, coup plotting is more shameful than rape because coup also contains a kind of violation.

When we handle the five coup d’état that we experienced, it could clearly be seen that the common ground of all was their accomplishment with crimes from the most shameful to the most villainous ones and by the hands of a quite organized crime ring. No coup has ever come out as a result of the circumstances when an ex nihilo deterioration came out in the country, the state and the public are exposed to serious assaults and the civil forces were unable to resist these assaults thus they needed the army to intervene.

Of course, all coups had claims like these but today we clearly know that the coup plotters stirred up the troubles before the coup in order to make us justify the coup. For these coups people were killed, brothers were made enemy and both rightists and leftists were killed with the same weapons. An enmity among Alewite-Sunni, Turk-Kurd, religious-secular was constituted and this caused a chaos thus the putschers produced a job for them in this chaotic condition. The summary of the fifty years history of the coup in our country is that.

No matter which coup you handle, either “27 May”, “9-12 March” “12 September” and 28 February”  or the failed plans such as “Balyoz”, “Yakamoz”, “Ayışığı”, “Kafes” and “Eldiven”, you will see a shameful ravenous greed for power, systemic theft, feloniousness, betrayal, treachery, ruthlessness, torture, seizure and rape.

The strongest proof of the accusation concerning the “Balyoz Plan” in my opinion is the militaristic culture that is constituted with the tradition of coup beginning with 27 May and continued till 28 February and aftermath. This militaristic culture never left us alone. It tried to influence all parts of our life. It intervened in our education, culture, wearing, our identity, our past, our future and we experienced this to the hilt. We learned that there are a lot of murders, rapes, tortures and corruption and theft at the background of these interventions. We don’t need to go to back; we saw the bank robbery that the 28 February was completed with, we all experienced the feeling of surprise at the 40 billion dollars disappearance during the 2001 crisis. Everybody experienced, felt and knew that this coup culture got its peak in 220 with the courage from the unquestioned 28 February.

It is certain that in a country where the main opposition party doesn’t put any distance between itself and coup or the Ergenekon network and even adopt a mission of protecting and supporting them the putschers will always take heart.
Their failure in coup plans doesn’t mean that the conjuncture of the world or that of the country didn’t give them the chance then they will never attempt to try. Who would say that the putschers have a mind that calculates the ante and end of the thing they do? Crime is not committed using the reason, it is committed with greed, envy, anger, hate and lust. Mostly the highest intellect cannot make up for the crime committed.
