Guide to Reading Conspiracy

After the first shocking effect of Wikileaks that has come with a lot of news, information, and rumors, the expected question is finally at hand now. Who has the control over these leaks? The documents about Afghanistan, thus the story of “known actor” were sympathetic and believable in the first days; yet later it started to be doubted. As if to make it harder to believe that this is done by an anarchist soldier’s fantasies organizationally, the story is unable to hide more things day by day. And the same question comes to minds. Who is doing this?

For this ordinary question, an ordinary and usual answer comes to minds: who has the most benefit from it and so we should focus on this point in order to find the actors. First of all, we should think twice at this point. Because it is not obviously known who has got the most benefit or who will get hurt as it continues. Secondly, the principal logic of investigators, so “who has the most benefit” is merely one of the ways to solve the murder and it does not always take us to truths. This way can also be followed for conspiracy theories; but conspiracy theories have a disadvantage of the enormous doubt about greater speculations beyond reality. The disappointment as a result of an incident whose causes are revealed is compensated by a greater speculation.

According to sociological approach, events may not fulfill the expectations of their actors; most of the time they may even result in the opposite way. For instance, intrigues organized by greedy people can be easily miscalculated and these miscalculations can confuse reasonable people’s minds. And these reasonable people even do not believe that everything is based on such simple calculations. There is Greek saying which goes like “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans”. There is a lesson here which is about the gap between intrigues and what happens in reality.

However, criticism against conspiratorial mind does never mean that there is no conspiratorial person in the world. We just claim that conspiracies cannot be understood without taking the factor of humankind into consideration with more realistic data. If there is even a conspiracy, we should also think about the possibility that a conspiracy does not always need to work in favor of its actors. Timing and planning followed by Wikileaks during leaking documents, explicitly shows that it has very special targets; yet it does not show the target yet. If we insist on the idea that “the country who has the most benefit is doing this”, this country can even be Turkey; because the only country which has not suffered from the leaking of documents and already taken advantage of the leaking of information may be Turkey. On the other hand, if there were usual suspects having planned leaking as known, they would not let Turkey gain such prestige.

Besides, except top secret rumors we have not met surprising information that will shock the whole world.

To my knowledge, regardless of reasons why the documents are leaked by Wikileaks, it has a significant effect in terms of its impressions left on people. And this is the deep consciousness about being aware of how diplomacy and conspiracy are full of humane weaknesses. It should be particularly noted that now it is priceless for the USA’s legendary intelligence service to know how this intelligence and synthesis service work through power and unknown actors.

Knowing this may make people not to see themselves as despicable and worthless. Like an idol the breaking of the USA’s intelligence, power, and effect attributed to it as if it was God, can make people abandon their idea of seeing themselves as the slaves of this power. Unfortunately, in most of the foreign policy analyses extreme power and intelligence misgiven to the USA causes people to fictionalize it as God and even to forget that transformation into slaves. In order to understand this, it is enough to take a look at either what is said about the Greater Middle East Initiative or about the missile shield. And you should not look at the image of superpower created by the supporters of the USA, but to those who seems to be anti-American.

Now, who does the collapse of idolized –either by their own claims or by those fictionalizing them- powers serve? I think we can also handle the matter from this perspective. As far as I am concerned, the conditions are not bad in the sense of becoming free from this kind of idolizations.
