With the report, which was prepared by McChrystal on the days of possible fiasco of the American troops’ entity in Afghanistan and its consequences if the situation continues, he (McChrystal) showed the way to Barack Obama how to get out of this situation. While this disposition brought relief to various political environments to some extend, the appointed General Petraeus who is well - known and loved both by the Republicans and the Democrats and his success in conducting the American armed forces in Iraq indeed are welcomed by the political environments with gladness and appreciation. The replacement of McChrystal with Petraeus is evaluated in Washington as getting through an operation with the least damage.

 

The General Petraeus, who will carry the responsibility of American forces in Iraq, developed very good relationships on the one hand with Karzai, on the other hand with American Congress members. He also gained the friendship of Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of America in Kabul and his character is shown as a role model in civil-military cooperation. He is also known as a master in fighting against the resistance.

 

It is not expected that the mean of change at the command echelon level will lead any alter in America’s war strategies about Afghanistan. As a matter of fact; the President Obama made an explanation about it without a delay.

 

The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen also underlined the fighting methods of McChrystal’s as the best and disclosed that these strategies will continue to have the support of the NATO. McChrystal’s fight against the resistance strategy is while increasing the number of soldiers on the one hand, also envisaging of giving gradual escalating responsibilities to Afghan Authorities.

 

Another consideration which was envisaged by the American strategy in Afghanistan is to increase the number of foreign forces to 150.000 until August. Obama and the White House are not lean towards the increase in the number of soldiers.

 

The willingness to diminish the number of the soldiers in Afghanistan by the General Petraeus is not being expected in the current strategy framework. Yet, Petraeus, as a soldier who is close to diplomacy gives the impression of the consciousness about disappearing the momentum and the dangers of which caused by the withdrawal of the soldiers from the country. He is also in conscious of its drawbacks in the national and the international arena. Ultimately; the continuation of the American strategies in Afghanistan is taken for granted.
