A Shift in Turkish Foreign Policy? From the Policy of Self-Interest to the Policy of Virtue

The interest of Turkey with Palestinian matters even leaving Arabic countries behind creates a disturbance in some countries. Apart from the arguments in the shift in foreign policy of Turkey, the unconcern which is related with Turkey only being busy with its own matters and leaving the humanitarian matters out of discussions indicates us that there is no place for humanitarian values in politics.

If you consider this disturbance seriously you would have touch the rock bottom of moral breakdown only. Let Turkey does not have anything to do at that level. Turkey, may be the first time has followed a road which is more likely to the virtue point than ‘memorized self-interest’ point in its foreign policy up till now.

The foreign policy, which has been considered so far, is extremely dealing with its own benefit; that, to tell you the truth is self-seeking, having no contribution to the world balance and the relations, has no assistance to itself and repeating itself continuously.

The compensation of this suggested foreign policy in state policy or humanitarian relations is groundless by not having any consider to world matters unless we have any benefit, which ever costs a coin. There comes a time, this policy creates a personality which deceives its best friend, gets through from all the values which make it whole, for the sake of reel policy, counting it as talent of not even trusting its father. By excluding of human values from the state interests, it creates people who do not even recognize human values in daily life. This policy looks after only the power balances and not recognizing of protection of any other humanitarian values that means; the powerful ones always are the right ones. This policy also says that; the countries could establish relations especially not on the basis of being right or sentimentalism but on the basis of self-interests.

During the years, all political scientists and international relations theoreticians are trying to understand that this policy is normal. But the policy which Turkey is applying to Palestinian exactly breaks the circle of stereotypical policy. This policy is such a virtuous policy that; to break down the relationships with the countries which believe that; If the powerful, the ‘authoritarian one’ is also the cruel and the wrong one, is a venture no matter what it costs.

The arguments to cut down this policy refer to ‘country’s interests’. They try to indicate how difficult days are waiting for us by letting our interests under risk with this virtuous policy. Actually it is not difficult to see for whom knows the reality of this arguments being analyzed on the pivot of significance that certain weak, opportunist and people who lacks a distinctive personality create all the idea. The people, who say there is no equivalence of humanitarian values, favor, loyalty, compassion and mercy in international relations or in politics in general, have contribution of ‘sickness’ into the politics only.

To tell you the truth; today, there is an effective and fertile way of policy which Turkey discovered with the help of Palestinian case. This virtuous way, is a policy that just because which has been considered invalid hence no body was interested in, will enlighten the humankind and affect the world status quo deeply. Because this policy has got the meaning mutually by Turkey’s rapid diplomatically actions all around the world implies a fact that; there is a gap and a need in this type of political actions.

COMPARISONS OF PKK-HAMAS

it is obviously normal that the number of people, who will encounter Turkey with its own controversies and discrepancies inside of it, will occur during Turkey’s this political actions. It is not expected that; Turkey will not welcome to the controversies while it is taking actions about Palestinian. But let’s see the reality of comparisons of PKK and HAMAS being legitimized of Israeli attacks over Palestinians right instead of supporting Kurdish case.

The video of Kurdish child throwing the stone is being used to dilute of Palestinian legitimacy. And they try to impress that PKK and HAMAS thereby Turkey and Israel as the same.

This comparison is a big injustice.

The history of relationship between Turkey and Kurds has the right of every criticism in all aspects. The Kurdish Problem is a near past problem which is caused by not considering carefully the description of nation-state during the establishment of the republic in terms of ignoring and denying of nationalism. These applications can never be advocated and it is seemed that they are problematic cases and the state still maintain to mend them. But there is no any occupier state in this region and the Kurdish matter seems to be solved on the basis of democracy. Today the organization itself is the only one which claims to represent Kurdish people and wants this problem to proceed. Denial policy has been the excuse of Kurdish aggression until yesterday but for the last 5-6 years this policy has replaced with recognition and resolution enactment. In retaliation; to take an action about this matter, PKK always makes it difficult by putting spoke in Turkey’s wheel. The aggression state which PKK created enforces not to find a solution but to deepen the matter.

Whereas today; people who insistently speak about previously done injustices to Kurdish, and them being stucked on the matter, is unnecessary any more. It is necessary to realize that; the atmosphere which was somehow welcoming the aggression has changed. Today; the only obstacle in front of lasting resolution and sustainability of it is that PKK’s unexpectedly and vague timing aggressions itself.

This violence keeps alive the idea of ‘nothing has been solved’ but that is not fair. There is no contribution of Kurdish rightness about comparing Kurds who are under the guarantee of constitutional citizenship rights and live self-respectedly with Palestinians whose everything has been seized by Israel. There is a democratic discussion and finding solution ground for every Kurdish people about equal citizenship and discrimination matters in Turkey. It is a dishonor, cruel to compare Palestinians whose land has been occupied and they are forced to live in a small piece of land without any humanitarian conditionals, freedom of travelling and with the fear of Israel that whenever wants the bombs being poured over children, women and everybody, with Kurdish People. Turkish soldiers have never refrained from seeing Kurdish people as their citizens when they take a wrong action over them and even that time they never abstain from being judged with the laws. Whereas Israel seems the Palestinians as enemies with its society and army and describes that the best Palestinian is a dead Palestinian. Israel has never given a chance to judge itself neither by the Palestinians nor by the International arena. The cruelty which has been applied by Israel is unique.

Therefore; there seems to be no desire of a simple benefit greedily out of these comparisons. Because the comparison is a big persecution itself. The people who know about the Kurdish matter adequately. In contrast this comparison is being made to gain legitimacy to Israel’s Zionist and terrorist policy. The Turkish people are watchful enough not to be taken in to this sneaky comparison. Turkey never seems herself as an Israel against Palestinian. She proved this by contributing to The Mavi Marmara, sending passengers with it and having them martried after the assault. The truths is that; at least seven of the nine passengers who were martyr after the Israeli assault were Kurdish and they indicated where they stand during the humanitarian aid which made the questions answered about the comparisons.
