Ideology and the Council of State

The truth revealed about the security cameras at the Council of State building on the day of the attack four years ago has not exposed anything new about the killing, but an important development has occurred in expressing something that people already knew. Some people have already figured out maintaining the “peculiar” regime that is all special to Turkey, is an important mechanism in these kinds of murders and violent activities. This is the regime of those who foment chaos and then in the name of saving the country from this chaos take control of the country, including areas where there is no controversy. It is the regime of those who have a voice (indeed it will be better if we say they have the whole authority) in all areas from Turkey’s energy sector, tourism, and the dressing to the national education system as the country has been fighting against terrorism, which never ends, in the Southeastern region.

Nevertheless, as the Council of State shooting gets clearer, an incredible truth about how this regime functions comes out. The shooting happened with the involvement of more people than expected and it was the result of an organized activity as Ahmet Altan well depicted. The camera records were destroyed, the destroy of these records were hidden for so long, and shadowing all evidences systematically by ignoring certain precautions and interventions at every step, which can come to the mind of an ordinary man instantly, point out that it is beyond an organized activity. This situation resembles to a structure, with the reflex participation of those who are used to these incidents, who consider these activities among their routine activities, and know what to do in case of an ordinary incident. Therefore, Turkey is very good at unsolved murders. This incident is also one of these ordinary incidents. The goal of the activity is well known and everyone takes his/her position by considering this as a command to unite.

Despite the crystal clear evidences today, some people demand “presumption of innocence” for Ergenekon suspects; yet they announce the shooting at the Council of State building as “a protest of an anti-headscarf ruling” without any clear details; and these are the results of this ability. Many great lawyers regarded this murder as “an attack to secularism” without finding research and investigation necessary and they already threw the blame on those with headscarves, who have no relation with these unsolved murder. It was an organized activity, which can be realized even by those who have intuitive sense and have no special role in this activity.

And what about the silence of those who rushed immediately to the streets considering it as a call for execution, who wrote headlines as if they knew and figured out everything, made speeches, and announced this incident as the September 11 of Turkey? Did they have more clear evidences than today’s which reveal the real actors, to throw the blame on religious people that day?

Nonetheless, what are most unbelievable in this organized activity are the attitudes of the members of the Council of State, who were exposed to these bullets. Even the last anniversary of the assassination witnessed the expression of the loyalty to secularism and anger against “reactionists”. We will see how the truths revealed this year will affect the discourse of the anniversary ceremony; but the truths having revealed the year before were not so different from today’s truths. However, even if all the people were a part of this activity, those exposed to bullets were expected to realize it. Moreover, they were not expected to be a part of the play, which was organized in order to deceive them apart from the others.

Although it was aimed to deceive them, the senior lawyers in the country did not refrain from voluntarily playing the role written for them after an assassination attempt from which they hardly saved their lives. It is possible to understand and express the participation of journalists, politicians, concerned NGOs to the issue in one way or another; yet the attitudes of those exposed to bullets towards the incident is an unbelievable point.

No, I never think that they participate in such an organization willingly and become a part of it. On the contrary, we can say that their attitudes constitute the best example in terms of operating mode of the organization. Although the incident was revealed with all dimensions, this example shows how strongly works the ideology that made people believe in quite the contrary. Such a strong ideology works like a kind of hypnotism.

Unable to accept the truths even when they see them, considering reality definitely from a perspective without harming their own consistency… That the murder was committed in the name of headscarf could turn into a dream from which it is hard to wake up. I think now it is necessary to leave the rest to psychiatrists.
